Faith Formation
Blessed Sacrament Catholic School is fully committed to our students’ spiritual development. Our primary goal is to help our students internalize the message of Christ, to love God and to show this in their encounters with others.
Students are taught about their Catholic faith in religion class and by attending weekly all-school Masses. All grade levels help plan and participate in special liturgy Masses held throughout the year. Students can participate in Mass through singing, reading, presenting the gifts, serving at the altar and planning. We have found that students grow through these opportunities to be a part of their church life.
Eucharist
Children receive the Holy Eucharist for the first time in second grade. Receiving the Eucharist is a blessing from God. It unifies the Community of Believers and strengthens the Body of Christ each time Communion is received in reverence with a prayerful heart. In order for your child to understand how very special the Sacrament of Holy Eucharist is, they must attend a Catholic School or Parish School of Religion (PSR) class for an entire year prior to receiving the sacrament.
Confirmation
Children are confirmed during their 8th grade year. At confirmation we receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit and confirm our baptismal promises. Greater awareness of the grace of the Holy Spirit is conferred through the anointing of chrism oil and laying on of hands by the Bishop.
Reconciliation
In the Sacrament of Reconciliation, we seek God’s mercy for offenses committed against him. Students first receive this sacrament during their 2nd grade year. Reconciliation is offered multiple times throughout the year for grades 3 – 8, typically during the Advent and Lenten seasons.
